You can make a difference in a child's
life today. Mazvita! Thank you! The 11th Annual Run
for Zimbabwe Orphans and Fair took place March 28. To
date, $27,000 has been raised for Makumbi Children’s home. A big
thank you goes to all who volunteered, ran and donated funds!
In 2009 Zimbabwe Run funds were spent on:
- The building of a dormitory for the older boys.
- Food, clothes and school fees for 100 orphans.
In 2010 Zimbabwe funds will be spent on:
- A 60KvA electric generator since the orphanage is experiencing
frequent power outages and there is little wood for fuel
- A small green house to boost garden production
- Food, clothes and school fees for 100 orphans
Gray Mavhera made his second appearance at the Zimbabwe
Run in 2010. He drove from Morena Valley (near L. A.) with his family
and good friend, Mohamed, to support the run. Gray was the #1 Distance
Runner in Zimbabwe in the early 90’s. The 40-year-old Mavhera
raced Colin Mack, a 15 year old runner from St. Francis High School
over Zim course. The race, won by Colin in a time of 4:51 to Gray’s
4:52, was an exciting finale to the day’s festivities!
